How to Use the Pin Sight Simulator

Set your arrow speed, weight, and shaft diameter, choose the distance your top pin is sighted at, and list the distances you want additional pins for. The simulator returns each pin's offset in inches relative to the zero line, drawn on a color-coded target face.

Every offset is the difference between the arrow's drop at that pin's distance and its drop at your sight-in distance, computed by the same drag-based engine as the trajectory calculator: 1-millisecond numerical integration with a drag coefficient of 1.5. Arrow mass and diameter therefore change your pin gaps, not just your speed.

Notice that the spacing between successive pins widens as distance grows — the gap from 40 to 50 yards is larger than from 20 to 30 — because the arrow has shed speed and falls for more time over each additional yard. If your real-world gaps look evenly spaced, your sight tape probably doesn't match your actual arrow ballistics.

What does a pin offset value mean?

Each offset is the difference, in inches, between the arrow's drop at that pin's distance and its drop at your sight-in distance. It tells you how far that distance's impact point sits from your zero line, which is what you physically compensate for when setting the pin.

Why aren't my pin gaps evenly spaced?

Because drop accelerates. The arrow loses speed to drag and spends more time falling over each successive yard, so the simulated gap between the 40- and 50-yard pins is wider than between 20 and 30 yards. Evenly spaced pins only look correct at short range.

Does the simulator model air resistance or just gravity?

Both. It uses the same engine as the trajectory calculator — numerical integration in 1-millisecond steps with a drag coefficient of 1.5 — which is why your arrow's weight and shaft diameter change the pin spacing, not just its launch speed.
